Why I joined this tribe

I joined because I study Gender Communication. The theory is, that while Sex is physical/biological is basis, Gender is a social construct. There are other shades of Gender Communication theory, like works by Judith Butler which go into the theory that Sex is socialy constructed as well (which is supported by the works of Anne Fausto-Sterling and others who work on how our social expectations dictate how the medical community assigns sex).

So where as the Michagan Womyn's Fest issues gave spark to this tribe's creation, from reading the first two sentances in the description, and given the name, I thought this tribe expanded beyond the issues surrounding ONE event.

Am I wrong?

    im kinda guessing that this is in response to another discussion in this tribe. i would have to agree that issues from fest are at the origins of this tribe and i would hope that that discussion continues. but i do not think that this tribe has to be limited only discussions of the policy at all.

    i guess i kinda envision the fest policy as a focus, but as you stated, also as a spark for discussing lots of different topics that are loosely related but focused on thinking about/discussion gender in all sorts of ways. i definitely think of this tribe as a space for those discussions and sharing of info/data/reasearch etc. i really appreciated your post of the research article on cnn. great stuff......

    i guess as a tribe member and as a moderator i would want folks to make their posts pertinent to the tribe as well as the discussion topic that they are posting too. if it doesnt seem to fit in the current topic, make a new one. if the tribe doesnt fit your needs than make a new one or find one that does.

    so i dont think yr wrong and im very glad that ya asked. thanx.
